In the fall of 1989, Lionel Crissman and some friends were rabbit hunting and scouting for good places to set up treestands in a marshy area in northeastern Ohio, near Youngstown. Crissman found the remains of a most unusual white-tailed buck, which was officially scored for the BTR in 1998. The amazing score of 336 1/8 Irregular in the Pick-Up category made it the highest-scoring rack ever entered into the BTR, possessing a total of 128 scorable points. Its many barnacle-like points made the name "Barnacle Buck" an obvious choice.
